I have loved growing up in the black hills so believe me when I say you must do this, YOU MUST!
Located in the Black Hills National Forest is the faces. It is what our state is known for. The beautiful faces of Washington, Jefferson, Rosevelt, and Lincoln stand tall above the evergreens and relay a sense of American pride. When you drive up to Rushmore it cost $11 for a day pass and inside the park, there is a restaurant with food and an information center that has a lot of history behind each president and the monument itself.
One of the prettiest places in the world is the Spearfish Canyon. It is a road located right outside of Spearfish. Driving down the road in a convertible is definitely the best option but working with whatever you will suffice.
The drive is about a half hour long and there are stops to see Bridal Veil Falls and my destination while driving on the road is Roughlock Falls. They are only a couple miles off the canyon and easy to find.
Downtown Rapid City
This was New Year’s Eve a couple years ago
Rapid City is a happening place and has just made the edition of Main Street Square in the past couple years and let me tell you, GO. It is fun for people of any age because in the summer there are fountains the little ones can run through and in the winter it turns into an ice skating rink. There is a coffee shop, ice cream parlor, toy shop, clothing boutiques, and restaurants all around. It is perfect to go hang out for a chill afternoon or even get some activity in. I’m telling you. I have lived in Rapid my whole life and I go there often because there is so much to do and see and shop and it is the best.
ALSO, there are a bunch of events that happen downtown. Wine Fest happens in June, Summer Nights are every Thursday, Fall Festival happens in October. No matter what time of year there is a list of things to do downtown and I highly recommend checking it out HERE.
The water is actually this blue and the sky is actually this blue and the trees are actually this green.
Sylvan is one of the coolest places on Earth because of its unique formation. Its name was featured on National Treasure and for good reason because everyone in the world should know the beauty. There are Kayak rentals right on the lake and a bit of sand that you can lay your towel on. It’s located right inside Custer State Park. It is the trailhead for Black Elk Peak Trail (you can read about hiking that here). There are trails you can walk all the way around it and different trails off of the lake if you are feeling adventurous. It is the perfect place to spend an afternoon with your family.
This list will keep you busy for a weekend so check it out and when you do, let me know what really stood out to you so I can keep up to date on what’s fun in the Hills I love!
